Lodestar Media Group produces documentary films that sit at the intersection of deep reporting, cinematic craft, and genuine moral urgency. We are not interested in the stories that come easily.
Founded by writer, director, and producer Eric Lodal — trained at Yale and Juilliard, and co-creator of TNT's Murder in the First with Steven Bochco — Lodestar brings a fiction director's structural instinct and a composer's ear to the documentary form.
Lodal has developed original projects at Warner Brothers, FX, Sony, Fox, and New Regency. His work as a literary curator and cultural programmer in Aspen deepened a commitment to storytelling that has defined every phase of his career. At Lodestar, that commitment has a single focus: documentary films that hold their shape for decades.
Our Approach
Documentary work runs on relationships, and relationships run on time. We don't arrive with a shot list. We earn whatever the story requires.
A documentary is not a report with footage. It's a story — which means it needs a spine, something at stake. That structure is the first thing we build and the last thing we compromise.
The films worth making still matter ten years out. We're not optimizing for a premiere. We're building something that holds.
